Elder Neil L. Andersen on the priceless gift of faith

Elder Neil L. Andersen (born August 9, 1951) served as a Seventy beginning in 1993, and was called to the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in 2009.
"The gift of faith is a priceless spiritual endowment. 'This is life eternal,' Jesus prayed, 'that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent' (John 17:3).
"Our faith is centered in God, our Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. It is bolstered by our knowledge that the fulness of the gospel has been restored to the earth, that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that prophets and apostles today hold the keys of the priesthood. We treasure our faith, work to strengthen our faith, pray for increased faith, and do all within our power to protect and defend our faith."
- Neil L. Andersen, "Trial of Your Faith," General Conference October 2012; see Ensign, November 2012, pp. 39-42

We don't always remember that faith is a gift—and a very precious one, as Elder Andersen points out, a "priceless spiritual endowment." It is a gift offered to us as we demonstrate our willingness to follow and obey; and it is a gift we must receive and then act upon to retain and develop.

I love that final instruction from Elder Andersen; we should

  • treasure our faith
  • work to strengthen our faith
  • pray for increased faith
  • do all within our power to protect and defend our faith
Great reminders to consider one by one!
