Neil L. Andersen on seeking the Savior's help in our lives

Elder Neil L. Andersen (1951- ) served as a Seventy beginning in 1993, and was called to the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in 2009.
"Personal revelation received through the gift of the Holy Ghost guides us through the unforeseen in accomplishing what we are here to do. And personal righteousness is essential to having the gift of the Holy Ghost. We will not be guided by the Holy Ghost if we are casual about our obedience.
"Central to all that we think and do is the Lord Jesus Christ. His life is our model. It is because of Him that we will live again. It is by the power of His Atonement that we can stand clean in the presence of our Father. We learn to love our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, with all our heart, might, mind, and strength. I like the statement 'He loves the Lord with all his heart who loves nothing in comparison of him, and nothing but in reference to him' (Howard W. Hunter, in CR, April 1965, 58). Jesus said, 'If ye love me, keep my commandments' (John 14:15)."

This is one of the most repeated instructions of the Gospel message. Personal righteousness, through diligent obedience, is the fundamental requirement to qualify for the gift of the Holy Ghost in our lives. With that gift, we are enabled to receive personal revelation to guide us in accomplishing our mortal purpose.

I was grateful for Elder Andersen's expression of the central role of the Savior in that process. How very true this statement feels to one who strives to be a disciple of Jesus Christ!
